Seeking to Practice and Restore New Testament Christianity

Have you ever wondered if our modern society knows anything of a religion outside of the culture of big business?

Is it possible to find a group of people who exist, as a church, for a purpose other than recreational, social, or political ends?

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be part of a group of people who are truly committed, not just in word but in practice and life, to the principles and teachings of the Bible?

What could be better than working with a group of people whose primary goal is learning the Scriptures, applying it to their lives, and sharing that knowledge with others?

This is the purpose and goal of the Gardendale church of Christ.

We hope this is what you find in your worship experience with us.

Here is what you can expect when you visit our services:

Singing

We praise God for all that He is by singing. To do so is to follow the example of our Lord. It is one means by which He identifies with us.
Hebrews 2:11-12, “. . .He [Jesus] is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying, ‘I will proclaim Thy name to my brethren; in the midst of the congregation I will sing Thy praises.’”

Prayer

We worship God, as the Almighty, through prayer. Again, we are following the example of Jesus and the early church in acknowledging their dependence upon God as their Father and their commitment to do His will.  “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as Thou wilt” (Matthew 26:39). “So Peter was kept in the prison, but prayer for him was being made fervently by the church to God” (Acts 12:5).

Teaching

We honor God in our worship by speaking from His word (in our Bible classes and preaching) in order to glorify Him.
“If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory and power for ever and ever. Amen” (1 Peter 4:11).

Communion

We reverence God, as our Redeemer, by partaking of the Lord’s Supper (by way of using the emblems of unleavened bread and fruit of the vine). When we do this, we are remembering the price He paid for our redemption, namely, the death of His Son Jesus, our Savior.
“For as often as ye eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes” (1 Cor 11:26).

Giving

We magnify God, as Creator, in our worship by giving of our financial means. We do this neither grudgingly, nor of necessity but willingly, for His people recognize the
“earth is the Lord’s and all it contains” and “God loves a cheerful giver” (1 Cor 10:26; 2 Cor 9:7).
Thus, we read the command from the apostle Paul, “On the first day of every week let each one of you put aside and save, as he may prosper. . .” (1 Cor 16:2).

Simply Christians

In doing all these things we are seeking to imitate the practice of the early Christians in the New Testatment. For we read, “they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer” (Acts 2:42).

Thanks for visiting. We hope you will come back soon.
